I think it's important for parents to realize that they need to keep open communication with their child who sustains a spinal cord injury, and to continually check-in and talk to them about how the child is feeling, how their experiences are going, not only during rehab, but particularly when they get back home to the community. How have then been received their peers?— How are things going in the classroom? And pay attention to—are they the same child?— are they having the same reactions that you think they would have had they not sustained a spinal cord injury? Keeping very close tabs on your child to ensure they are adjusting well is incredibly important.
