For each of us as we go through life, there're different developmental milestones: stages that we go through, by age, that help us to move onto the next level our life. In pediatrics, we really focus on developmental milestones because they're the basis for the next level of development. If you're not able to successfully complete your developmental milestones when you're three or five, moving on to the next level as a school-aged child or adolescent will be much more difficult.
